People who live in Annapolis tend to commute to work in Washington or Baltimore. Average commute times from the Annapolis area
are in the neighborhood of thirty to forty minutes-some of the best commutes in the metro area. If you ask why we are so blessed, the
answer is simply the same thing that draws many people to our bucolic life-style: the water.
Many homes in the Annapolis area are on the Chesapeake, or in water privileged communities. All the water means, less land, fewer
home, fewer commuters; additionally, you will not have to compete with drivers from Northern Virginia, Montgomery County, West
Virginia or Pennsylvania.
The farther west or south of Annapolis, communities like Crofton, Davidsonville, Edgewater, or Shadyside, the higher the percent of
people who commute to DC. The farther north of Annapolis, communities like Severn, Odenton, Pasadena and Severna Park the higher
the percent of people who commute to Baltimore.
To cut down on the commute time, many private and government employers allow flextime, letting workers come in early or late to avoid
the highway parking lots at rush hours.
